BetterUp for Individuals is closing — what are the alternatives?
BetterUp stopped selling new individual coaching subscriptions on 31 January 2026 and says the BetterUp for Individuals programme will close on 31 January 2027. If you coached with BetterUp on your own, your options are an independent human coach, a coaching marketplace, or an AI coach for everyday accountability — or a mix of these.

What BetterUp announced
According to BetterUp’s own support page, the wind-down began on 1 February 2026. The key dates it lists are:
- 31 January 2026 — new subscriptions and coaching sessions no longer available to buy.
- 31 July 2026 — last renewal date for monthly, quarterly and bi-annual plans.
- 31 January 2027 — BetterUp for Individuals officially closes.
If you want to keep a human coach
Many coaches work independently. Professional coaching bodies such as the International Coaching Federation run directories of credentialed coaches you can search by specialty.
If what you valued was accountability
For a lot of people, the most useful part of a coaching subscription was simply being asked, regularly, whether they had done what they said they would. That part is what an AI coach does well, at a small fraction of the cost of human sessions. It will not replace a skilled human coach for deep work, but it keeps goals moving between sessions or on its own.

When does BetterUp for Individuals end?

Can I still use my remaining BetterUp sessions?
BetterUp says current members keep access through their subscription end date and can use available flex sessions until their listed expiration date, but that unused sessions no longer roll over from 1 February 2026. Check BetterUp’s support page for the details of your plan.
Is an AI coach a replacement for BetterUp?
Not a like-for-like one. BetterUp for Individuals offered sessions with human coaches; an AI coach is software. An AI coach is a good replacement for the accountability and check-in part of coaching, and a much cheaper one, but not for a skilled human coach’s judgement.
